Islamabad, January 4,2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert forecasting widespread rain and snowfall across the country, with heavy fog expected to blanket the plains tonight, reducing visibility.
According to the forecast, northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, as well as surrounding areas, are likely to experience rain and snowfall, particularly in the mountainous regions. The Potohar region, including Islamabad, is also expected to receive rain, with snowfall anticipated in Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas.
In contrast, the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh will experience moderate to heavy fog, significantly impacting visibility during the night and early morning hours. The fog is expected to cause disruptions in travel, particularly on highways and rural roads.
Temperature updates indicate that Gupis in Gilgit-Baltistan recorded a low of -6°C, while temperatures in major cities were as follows: Karachi 27°C, Islamabad 23°C, Lahore 18°C, Peshawar 16°C, and Quetta 6°C.
Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued an air quality warning for Islamabad, where the air quality index has reached 219, categorized as hazardous to health. The public is advised to take precautions, especially those with respiratory issues.
