Dubai, February 13, 2025: Pakistan cricketers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during their tri-nation series match against South Africa in Karachi on Wednesday.
The ICC penalized the trio for Level 1 violations of the Code, with financial fines and disciplinary demerits imposed.
Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 25% of his match fee for violating Article 2.12, which prohibits “inappropriate physical contact” with another player, match official, or individual during an international match.
The incident occurred during the 28th over of South Africa’s innings when Shaheen intentionally blocked batter Matthew Breetzke as he attempted a single, resulting in physical contact and a heated exchange.
Meanwhile, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam were fined 10% of their match fees for violating Article 2.5, which relates to using “language, actions, or gestures that could insult or provoke a batter following their dismissal.”
The violation took place in the 29th over, when both players celebrated too closely to Temba Bavuma after his run-out.
In addition to fines, each player received one demerit point on their disciplinary record. None of them had prior offenses in the past 24 months. All three players accepted the sanctions, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
