London, September 11, 2024-Renowned American singer and actress Selena Gomez has revealed that she is unable to carry her own children. In a candid interview with a magazine, the 32-year-old shared that learning she could not have a safe pregnancy was a painful realization she had to come to terms with.
“I’ve never said this publicly, but unfortunately, I can’t carry my own children,” Gomez said. “I have several medical issues that would endanger both my life and the baby’s. Grieving that reality took some time.”
Gomez has been open in the past about her battle with lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks healthy tissue. While symptoms can be managed with medication, the illness has severely impacted her health. In 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant due to complications related to lupus.
Additionally, Gomez has shared her struggles with bipolar disorder, a condition she discussed in depth in her documentary, My Mind and Me.
Despite these challenges, Gomez expressed hope for motherhood, stating that she is considering surrogacy or adoption. “It’s not how I envisioned it,” she admitted. “I thought it would happen naturally, as it does for most people. But I’m in a much better place now. I feel blessed that there are amazing options like surrogacy and adoption, both of which are very real possibilities for me.”
Gomez added, “I’m excited for this journey, even though it might look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care how it happens. It will be my baby, and that’s all that matters.”
The singer is currently in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco.
