Islamabad, April 8, 2025: Medemer Generation, a book by Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), has officially joined the esteemed collection of the National Library of Pakistan (NLP) as part of the “African Corner Initiative” launched by the Government of Pakistan to promote cross-cultural literary exchange.
The formal handover ceremony was held at the NLP in Islamabad, where Dr. Jemal Beker, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, presented multiple copies of the book to Mr. Raja Javed Iqbal, Director General of the National Library.
The book represents the third installment in the “Medemer” series penned by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The Medemer philosophy, which translates to “synergy” or “coming together”, emphasizes inter-generational collaboration, national unity, and shared responsibility for the future.
Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s initiative in fostering literary and cultural ties with Africa.
“Medemer Generation reflects our collective duty to raise a responsible, visionary generation that can carry forward the legacies of the past,” the Ambassador said. “Sharing this philosophy builds a bridge of understanding between Ethiopia and Pakistan.”
He also underlined the broader national and regional significance of Medemer as a guiding principle in Ethiopia’s development, citing landmark projects like the Green Legacy Initiative, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and Ye Lemat Tirufat (Bounty of the Basket) as practical manifestations of this ideology.
Receiving the book, Director General Raja Javed Iqbal hailed the addition as an honor for the National Library.
“The inclusion of Medemer Generation offers an important window into modern Ethiopia’s political and social vision. It will serve as a valuable resource for Pakistani scholars, researchers, and students,” he said.
He further noted that initiatives like the African Corner are pivotal in promoting cross-continental dialogue and deepening mutual understanding through the power of ideas and literature.
