Karachi, April 12, 2025: Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter and Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan declared on Saturday that he sees himself as the captain of all 250 million Pakistanis, expressing deep pride in the responsibility that comes with leadership both nationally and in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Speaking to reporters during a final training session at the National Stadium Karachi ahead of a high-stakes clash with Karachi Kings, Rizwan struck a reflective yet determined tone. “We’ve learned from our mistakes and will make sure we don’t repeat them,” he said.

He acknowledged the growing discontent among fans, stating, “Their frustration is valid. We couldn’t meet expectations. While we face criticism, we also feel the love. Listening to fans is part of our job — though sometimes, unfair criticism does sting.”

Rizwan also addressed recent remarks from former captain Shahid Afridi, saying, “I value constructive criticism. Everyone learns from it. Afridi bhai spoke in my favor, but he shouldn’t have questioned my authority as captain.”

Touching on Pakistan cricket’s selection dynamics, Rizwan said, “Everyone knows how the selection committee works. I’m lucky to have decision-making authority in Multan Sultans. I’m proud of always speaking the truth.”

He also candidly admitted his personal shortcomings: “I regret not pursuing education seriously. My focus was always on cricket. Yes, my English isn’t perfect — if you want flawless English, I’d be a professor. But I speak from the heart.”

Rizwan credited former head coach Misbah-ul-Haq for backing him as an opener, calling it “absolutely the right decision,” a move that helped him become a mainstay in the national side.

Ahead of the much-anticipated match, Rizwan praised both sides: “Karachi Kings is a strong side with outstanding players. I have great respect and affection for the team and the city of Karachi. Multan Sultans also boast quality players — in the end, it’s all about the right combination and execution.”
