Islamabad land scam: NAB files reference against 9

Islamabad, April 14, 2025: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a major reference against nine individuals, including influential religious figures and former Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials, in a land scam involving the illegal allotment of valuable government land in Islamabad’s Sector E-11.

The accused include prominent clerics from Golra Sharif and several high-ranking ex-officials of the CDA’s Land and Estate Wing. Among them are former CDA Director Land Khalid Mehmood, former Member Estate Shaista Sohail, former Deputy Director Raja Zahid Hussain, and former Additional Director Syed Ghulam Hussamuddin.

According to NAB, the accused orchestrated a fraudulent scheme to illegally acquire government land by using forged documents and manipulating official records. The misappropriation is believed to have caused losses amounting to millions of rupees to the national treasury.

Investigations revealed that certain CDA officials allegedly abused their authority to facilitate the unlawful land transfers, enabling members of the Golra Sharif clerical family to claim public land through fabricated claims.

Sources confirm that the reference has been submitted to the Islamabad Accountability Court, where proceedings are expected to commence shortly.

NAB reiterated its commitment to holding accountable those involved in the misuse of public assets. “Illegal occupation and fraudulent acquisition of public lands will not be tolerated,” a bureau spokesperson stated. “All those who violate the law, regardless of status or influence, will face legal consequences.”

The case is being closely watched due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the increasing public concern over unchecked land encroachments and misuse of authority in the federal capital.
