Islamabad, May 8, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his solidarity and support during a critical moment following India’s missile strikes on Pakistani territory. The Prime Minister received a call from President Erdogan on Wednesday, during which the two leaders discussed the escalating tensions in South Asia.

In a statement posted on X, Shehbaz Sharif said he had briefed the Turkish president on the bravery and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces, who successfully repelled Indian aggression. “We will protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs,” the Prime Minister asserted, appreciating the Turkish nation’s prayers for the martyrs and its efforts to promote de-escalation.

President Erdogan conveyed condolences over the loss of Pakistani lives and reaffirmed Turkiye’s steadfast support for Pakistan. He reiterated his country’s readiness to play a constructive role in maintaining peace in the region and backing Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan also voiced concern over the situation, condemning India’s military strikes. In a statement, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said, “We condemn military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that killed and injured several civilians.” Expressing solidarity with the Pakistani people, the ministry offered condolences to the victims’ families and called on all sides to exercise restraint and resolve the crisis through dialogue.
