Pakistan wants peace, but fully prepared for war: DG ISPR

Rawalpindi, May 21, 2025: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Wednesday rejected Indian claims of prior warning before recent hostilities, declaring them “absurd” and reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to defend its sovereignty.

In an interview with the BBC, the military spokesperson dismissed the notion that India had shared credible intelligence ahead of its aggressive military actions, stating that Pakistan does not rely on Indian intelligence for national security. “India’s narrative is based on fiction and fabricated claims,” he asserted.

Lt Gen Chaudhry disclosed that India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Pakistani counterpart on May 7, seeking dialogue amid rising tensions. “We responded that any talks would follow an appropriate response. Our retaliatory action came first — and effectively,” he said.

He confirmed that after Pakistan’s response, India’s military publicly indicated a desire to avoid further escalation. “This reflects the effectiveness of our deterrence,” he added.

“We Seek Peace, But If War is Imposed, We’re Ready”

“Our priority is peace — we love peace,” the DG ISPR emphasized. “But if war is imposed on us, we are fully prepared to respond with all necessary force. The idea of nuclear war is irrational and must remain unthinkable.”

Highlighting regional sensitivities, he cited past U.S. intervention in 2019, noting that global actors still wish to avoid full-scale conflict in South Asia.

The ISPR chief accused India of perpetuating false narratives to justify its aggression. He referenced recent airspace violations by Indian drones, affirming that Pakistan’s air defense systems are capable of intercepting such intrusions in real time.

“India’s posture is increasingly aggressive, its policies hostage to extremist elements,” he stated. “Constructing lies every few years to justify military actions will not succeed. This is not 1971 — Pakistan will not be caught unprepared.”
