Gaza, May 28, 2025: An Israeli airstrike on Wednesday targeted the home of Palestinian journalist Osama al-Arbid in the as-Saftawi area of northern Gaza, killing at least eight people and injuring several others, according to Al Jazeera.

Al-Arbid reportedly survived the attack, with local media sharing footage of him being rescued from the rubble of his destroyed home. The Israeli military has yet to comment on the strike.

Medical sources in Gaza said at least 15 Palestinians have been killed in multiple Israeli assaults across the enclave since dawn.

In a separate incident in southern Gaza, three Palestinians were killed and 46 others injured after Israeli forces opened fire at an aid distribution point operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a U.S.-backed organization. The shooting occurred in Rafah, where thousands had gathered in chaotic scenes triggered by Israel’s newly implemented aid delivery system.

The distribution centre reopened shortly after the incident, GHF officials confirmed.

The attack in Rafah came days after Israel partially eased a months-long blockade imposed on March 2, which had led to catastrophic shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 3,785 Palestinians have been killed since the collapse of a ceasefire on March 18, bringing the war’s total death toll to 53,939, the majority of whom were civilians, AFP reports.

Since launching its full-scale offensive on Gaza in October 2023, Israel has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, according to Al Jazeera. The offensive has displaced approximately 90% of Gaza’s population of 2 million, creating a dire humanitarian crisis and widespread devastation.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) related to its military campaign in the enclave.
