Imran Khan rules out “give and take” deal, says dialogue only in national interest

Rawalpindi, May 29, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has firmly rejected the idea of any personal compromise or “give-and-take” arrangement, asserting that any dialogue must serve Pakistan’s national interest alone.

This message was conveyed by Senator Ali Zafar after a recent meeting with the incarcerated former prime minister at Adiala Jail, where Khan has been held since August 2023. The 71-year-old politician has faced multiple charges, from corruption to terrorism, following his ouster through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.

Speaking to reporters, Zafar said Khan was clear that he has never sought concessions for himself. “If I had to ask for relief, I would have done so long ago,” Khan reportedly told Zafar.

The statement came in response to an earlier appeal made by Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, who called upon the country’s “unseen forces” to initiate dialogue through a “give-and-take” approach. Her remarks sparked speculation about possible negotiations.

In reaction, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called Aleema’s suggestion a “fragile effort” and remarked that the offer could be “probed”, suggesting some openness to further examination.

Senator Zafar emphasized that Imran Khan is open to talks for the sake of national unity, stating: “Khan said he is ready for dialogue with the establishment, but only in Pakistan’s interest.” He added that Khan remains firm in his stance and would not tolerate ambiguity from those in power. “No one will be allowed to play on both sides of the wicket,” Khan reportedly said.

The PTI leader also reiterated his demand for justice and a swift judicial process regarding his ongoing legal cases. “I only want justice,” he said.

Khan confirmed that PTI had formally launched a protest movement, with a full strategy to be unveiled within the coming five to six days. He has directed the party leadership to begin preparations in earnest.

This latest development highlights the PTI founder’s continued defiance and insistence on principled dialogue amid ongoing political and legal challenges.
