Dubai, June 4, 2025: The future of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 remains uncertain amid escalating cross-border tensions between arch-rivals India and Pakistan—two of Asia’s biggest cricketing powerhouses.
Originally scheduled to be hosted by India, the six-nation tournament now faces significant logistical and diplomatic challenges due to the ongoing political friction between the neighboring countries.
Last month, speculation arose that India, both the defending champions and designated hosts, were considering withdrawing from the tournament due to the deteriorating political climate. However, those reports were quickly dismissed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Despite the denial, doubts resurfaced this week as a senior BCCI official refused to confirm India’s participation, citing a lack of internal discussion about the event.
“To be honest, we have had no discussions within the board about the Asia Cup,” a top BCCI official told Reuters on Tuesday.
“We have been busy with the Indian Premier League and now we are focusing on India’s tour of England. These are our immediate concerns.”
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also expressed uncertainty regarding its team’s involvement in the tournament.
“We will cross that bridge when we come to it,” the PCB stated in response to Reuters inquiries.
Adding to the growing uncertainty around Asian cricket fixtures, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) earlier this week postponed the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2025, which was scheduled to begin on June 6 in Sri Lanka.
The decision followed a request from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva, who cited unfavorable weather and rising health concerns due to a chikungunya virus outbreak in the region. SLC formally approached ACC President Mohsin Naqvi seeking a delay, which was subsequently granted.
With no official statement yet on the fate of the Men’s Asia Cup, cricket fans across the continent await clarity from the ACC, BCCI, and PCB regarding the future of one of Asia’s premier cricketing events.
