Islamabad, June 28, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Saturday appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi to ensure justice in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s controversial verdict on reserved seats, warning that failure to uphold the Constitution could plunge the country into “darkness.”

Speaking at a press conference alongside senior party leader Senator Shibli Faraz, Gohar sharply criticized the Supreme Court’s 7-judge majority ruling, which overturned an earlier July 12, 2024 decision by eight judges that had declared PTI eligible for reserved seats for women and non-Muslims.

“Injustice today is worse than it was in the 1990s,” Gohar said, expressing deep disappointment.
“Don’t let your hatred for PTI push the country into chaos — this is about the Constitution, not party politics.”

Gohar maintained that PTI members legally joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and submitted all necessary documentation to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) within the required timeframe. He accused the ECP of unconstitutionally allocating reserved seats meant for SIC to rival parties.

“We were entitled to those seats, but they were handed over to mandate thieves,” he stated.
“Despite 86 PTI-backed candidates being notified, our constitutional share of reserved seats was denied.”

He also criticized the Supreme Court for not forming a full bench to hear the reserved seats case, arguing that such a step would have ensured a more balanced judgment. Gohar further contended that the 26th Constitutional Amendment case — concerning reserved seats — should have been prioritized in court.

Senator Shibli Faraz Slams ‘Systematic Suppression’

Senator Shibli Faraz echoed Gohar’s concerns, accusing the state and election institutions of orchestrating a coordinated campaign to suppress PTI.

“Our party’s election symbol was taken away, candidates were harassed, and Senate elections weren’t held in KP — while they were completed in other provinces,” he said.

He alleged that the general elections were deliberately delayed to undermine PTI’s electoral strength.

“Everything is being recorded in this digital age — some will be held accountable here, others before God,” he warned. Faraz also painted a grim picture of the national economy, citing rising inflation, capital flight, and public disillusionment. “There is no roadmap for development, no plan to reduce dependence on loans. The people’s purchasing power has dropped by 58%,” he claimed.

He concluded by asserting that Imran Khan, currently imprisoned, remains the “only ray of hope” for Pakistan’s future.
