Petrol prices set to increase by Rs11 per liter as gas tariffs also surge

Islamabad, June 30, 2025: Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to rise by Rs11 per liter, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) may go up by as much as Rs15 per liter from July 1, 2025, in response to climbing global crude oil prices and continued depreciation of the Pakistani rupee.

Officials from the Petroleum Division have confirmed the expected increase, while the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is finalizing a pricing summary, which will be sent to the Ministry of Petroleum later today. A formal announcement is expected by this evening following final approval from the finance minister, in consultation with the Prime Minister.

This would mark the second fuel price hike in recent weeks. On June 16, petrol prices were raised by Rs4.80 per liter, and HSD saw a jump of Rs7.95 per liter.

Meanwhile, OGRA has issued an official notification for a significant increase in gas tariffs, which will also take effect from July 1. The new gas prices apply to domestic and other consumer categories, with some slabs facing hikes of up to 50%.

Under the revised structure, household gas tariffs will now range between Rs200 and Rs4,200 per MMBTU, depending on usage. In addition to the unit-based pricing, fixed monthly charges have also been introduced for domestic consumers.

The combined increase in fuel and gas prices is expected to deepen the financial strain on citizens already grappling with high inflation, raising concerns about the rising cost of living and its broader impact on economic activity.
