Islamabad, July 3, 2025: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a countrywide alert warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flash floods from Sunday, July 6, through July 10, urging citizens and local authorities to remain vigilant.

According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), a combination of monsoon activity and a strong westerly weather system is expected to trigger significant weather events in most regions of Pakistan, particularly the northern areas, where the risk of flash floods will persist until July 12. Region wise details of the expected rainfall is given below-

Punjab and Islamabad

Isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad and parts of northern and central Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, and Okara from July 6–10.

Southern districts such as Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan are likely to receive light to moderate showers.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Swat, Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Battagram, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Haripur, Bannu, and Kohat, potentially causing flash floods and landslides.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir

Moderate to heavy rainfall, particularly during evening and night hours, may trigger flash floods and landslides in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamir, Ghanche, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Haveli, and Bagh. Risk includes road blockages, communication outages, and infrastructure damage.

Sindh

Moderate rainfall is forecast for Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Kashmore, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, and Mithi.

Heavier downpours are expected in Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu, raising concerns over urban flooding, traffic disruptions, and infrastructure damage.

Balochistan

Scattered to heavy rainfall is predicted across Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, Jaffarabad, Kohlu, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Lasbela, and Naseerabad. Strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures and disrupt mobility.

The NDMA has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to flood-prone and high-altitude areas, stay indoors during intense weather, secure household items and vehicles and keep emergency kits ready.

Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flooded roads and underpasses. Tourists should defer trips to mountainous regions and follow local administration advisories.

NDMA has instructed provincial and district administrations to activate emergency response teams, ensure the clearance of drainage systems, maintain public awareness through local channels and keep rescue equipment and personnel on standby

Citizens are encouraged to monitor updates via NDMA’s official social media handles and to download the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app for real-time weather alerts and safety guidance.
