Karachi/Lahore, July 11, 2025: Following the tragic discovery of actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali’s decomposed body in her Karachi apartment earlier this week, her brother Naveed Asghar has firmly denied social media allegations of family negligence. He attributed earlier remarks made by their father to intense emotional distress amid a period of personal grief.
The body of Humaira Asghar, who had been missing from the public eye for months, was recovered on Tuesday from an apartment in Defence Phase 6. The police had entered the flat on a court’s directive as part of eviction proceedings initiated by her landlord over unpaid rent since 2024. Doctors confirmed that the body was in the final stages of decomposition, suggesting she had died more than six months ago. Forensic and chemical tests are now underway to determine the exact cause of death.
Humaira Asghar was laid to rest on Friday in the Q Block graveyard of Model Town, Lahore, in a funeral marked by grief and dignity. Her brother Naveed Asghar, who received her body from Chhipa Welfare Foundation late Thursday night, traveled by road to Lahore along with other family members.
The body was not brought to the family home but was instead kept at a local morgue and then directly transported to a nearby mosque for funeral prayers, which were attended by relatives, friends, and a large number of mourners.
“My sister was independent; may Allah forgive her and grant her peace,” Naveed said while speaking to media before the burial.
Addressing the growing speculation on social and mainstream media, Naveed categorically rejected the claims that the family had abandoned Humaira.
“The news that we were estranged from our sister is wrong. We were in contact with police and the Chhipa Foundation for the past three days. Legal processes take time — and that’s why the body was handed over just now,” he said.
Naveed also highlighted the family’s emotional state, revealing that their parents had already been traumatized by the recent death of a younger aunt in a traffic accident.
“Under mental pressure, our father may have said certain things, but they shouldn’t be taken as the family’s position. We were all devastated,” he added.
He acknowledged that Humaira had chosen a life of independence and had not shared her residence with the family.
“Her phone had been off for six months. Even our mother didn’t know where she was living,” Naveed explained.
Naveed criticized the media’s focus on the family and urged for a broader probe into the circumstances surrounding Humaira’s death.
“Why hasn’t the landlord been questioned? How was the flat accessed? Why were there no CCTV cameras in the building?” he asked.
He expressed concern over his mother’s deteriorating mental health due to sensational media coverage.
Ramzan Chhipa, founder of the Chhipa Welfare Foundation, also dispelled rumors of abandonment.
“Naveed was in contact with me consistently over the past few days. The narrative that the family disowned Humaira is false,” he said.
“The impression that her parents refused to take her body is completely baseless.”
Authorities confirmed that Humaira’s body was discovered only after a court order allowed police to enter her apartment. Medical experts were unable to determine the immediate cause of death due to decomposition, and forensic samples have been sent for analysis. Investigations continue into whether any foul play occurred or if it was a case of unattended natural death.
