Los Angeles, July 18, 2025: A deadly explosion rocked the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) training facility in Monterey Park early Friday, killing three people, authorities confirmed.

The blast occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. at the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) compound, home to the department’s bomb squad and other specialized units.

Initial reports suggest the explosion took place near a law enforcement vehicle, likely during the handling of explosive materials by bomb disposal personnel. Footage from the scene showed extensive damage in the immediate vicinity of the blast.

Emergency crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded promptly, but officials have yet to confirm whether additional injuries occurred.

The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and authorities have not released the identities of the victims pending notification of next of kin.

The LASD has not issued an official statement yet, but the incident has raised serious concerns about safety protocols at one of the country’s most critical tactical training sites.
