Islamabad, July 30, 2025: In recognition of his unwavering commitment to environmental preservation, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, has been awarded the honorary title of “Ambassador of Margalla Hills National Park.”
The title was conferred by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, during a meeting held at CDA Headquarters.
During the meeting, the two officials explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in areas including smart city development, urban greenery, and institutional capacity building through technical exchanges and partnerships.
Dr. Beker briefed the CDA Chairman on Ethiopia’s Corridor Development Project, a large-scale urban transformation initiative led by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. The project emphasizes infrastructure expansion, mass plantation drives, and riverside beautification to elevate living standards across Ethiopian cities.
He also proposed establishing a sister city partnership between Addis Ababa and Islamabad, aimed at deepening cultural, environmental, and economic ties between the two capitals.
As part of Ethiopia’s commitment to climate resilience, Dr. Beker announced the launch of the Ethiopian Embassy’s upcoming tree plantation campaign in Islamabad, under the umbrella of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s “Green Legacy Initiative.” The campaign seeks to promote environmental awareness and collective climate action. He extended an invitation to Chairman Randhawa to actively participate in the initiative.
Chairman Randhawa briefed the Ambassador on CDA’s developmental achievements and ongoing efforts to transform Islamabad into a modern, inclusive, and eco-friendly capital city. He particularly praised Dr. Beker’s leadership in organizing clean and green drives, especially those focused on preserving the natural ecosystem of Margalla Hills National Park.
Appreciating Ethiopia’s model of sustainable urban development and riverside upliftment, the CDA Chairman expressed a strong desire to foster bilateral cooperation and learn from Ethiopia’s environmental strategies.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to work together in promoting sustainability, greenery, and people-centered urban progress.
