Lahore, August 15, 2025: The Punjab government has approved development projects worth Rs96 billion, with major allocations for rural uplift, urban infrastructure, and preservation of religious heritage.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP). According to the plan, Rs72 billion will be spent on establishing model villages across the province, aimed at improving housing, public services, and community facilities in rural areas. Officials said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to raise living standards and promote balanced regional development.
In a move to safeguard cultural and religious diversity, the government has allocated Rs1.5 billion for the protection and renovation of gurdwaras, churches, and temples. The funds will be used to restore historic structures and improve facilities for worshippers and visitors.
Urban infrastructure will also see a major boost, with Rs22.47 billion set aside to upgrade sewage and floodwater drainage systems in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Multan. Significant projects are also planned in Khanewal, Kamoke, Vehari, and Wazirabad to mitigate urban flooding and sanitation challenges.
Officials say the approved projects reflect the government’s commitment to both modernising infrastructure and preserving Punjab’s diverse cultural heritage.
