Manchester, August 20, 2025: Pakistan batter Haider Ali has been granted a two-week extension on his bail by Greater Manchester Police after a British-Pakistani woman lodged a complaint against him over an alleged incident at a local hotel.

Ali was originally scheduled to appear before the police on August 20, but will now report two weeks later as investigations continue.

Confirming the development, Greater Manchester Police told a Pakistani news channel that the 24-year-old cricketer had been arrested earlier this month following the complaint.

“It’s alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at a premises in Manchester. The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries. The victim is being supported by officers,” the police statement said.

According to his family, Ali denied any wrongdoing during his police interview, claiming he knew the complainant well and described her as a friend. Sources said their meeting took place at a Manchester hotel.

The player was first detained by Kent Police from the Players’ Canteen Office at the Spitfire County Cricket Ground before being transferred to Canterbury Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provisionally suspended Haider Ali pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

“The PCB fully respects the legal procedures of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to follow due process,” the board said in a statement. “Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately. Once the legal proceedings are concluded, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary.”

Haider Ali, 24, has represented Pakistan in 35 T20 internationals since his debut in 2020, as well as two ODIs.
