Dhaka, August 24, 2025: Pakistan and Bangladesh on Sunday reaffirmed their commitment to revitalising ties, with a focus on regional cooperation, youth engagement, and enhanced trade and economic linkages.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka, where the two leaders discussed restoring long-standing connections, improving regional connectivity, and expanding economic collaboration. Dar also conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s greetings and expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to his delegation.
The meeting comes amid a breakthrough in Islamabad-Dhaka relations, marked by the establishment of a joint working group on trade and economic cooperation. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed earlier during delegation-level talks, led by Dar and Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain.
According to officials, discussions covered a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including the revival of SAARC and avenues for broader regional collaboration.
Coinciding with the visit, Pakistan launched the “Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor”, which will provide 500 scholarships to Bangladeshi students over the next five years, including 125 in medicine. Training for 100 Bangladeshi civil servants is also planned, while scholarships under the Pakistan Technical Assistance Programme have been increased from 5 to 25.
Separately, Dar visited the residence of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, who is recovering from cardiac surgery. On behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Dar conveyed best wishes for his health and acknowledged his contributions in politics, education, and social welfare.
