Colombo, August 28, 2025: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Thursday named a 16-member squad for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

Batting all-rounder Charith Asalanka has been appointed captain as Sri Lanka look to defend their Asia Cup crown in the T20I-format tournament.

The big boost for the Islanders is the return of star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who missed recent assignments due to a hamstring injury sustained against Bangladesh in July. He was a notable absentee from both the Zimbabwe ODI squad and the three-match T20I series in Harare (September 3–7), which precedes the Asia Cup.

Hasaranga replaces uncapped spinner Vishen Halambage and all-rounder Dushan Hemantha, with no other changes made to the squad.

Sri Lanka, drawn in Group B, will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on September 13 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. They will then face Hong Kong on September 15 and Afghanistan on September 18 in their remaining group-stage matches.
