Rawalpindi, September 8, 2025: A media talk by Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was disrupted outside Adiala Jail on Monday after a scuffle broke out between PTI workers and journalists.
Witnesses said PTI workers not only hurled verbal abuse but also physically manhandled several journalists, with at least one reporter subjected to violence. In protest, journalists announced a boycott of Aleema’s press interaction, calling it a response to the “unacceptable mistreatment” they faced.
The incident follows an earlier episode outside Adiala Jail last week when Aleema Khan was pelted with eggs during a media interaction after attending proceedings in the Toshakhana case. Two women hurled eggs at her, briefly startling her. Regaining composure, she remarked: “We don’t care if anyone attacks us, as we knew this would happen,” before leaving the scene in her car.
According to Rawalpindi police, the women involved were PTI supporters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who were also part of protests organized by the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) and APCA against Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur over delayed salaries and administrative grievances. Police said the women acted after Aleema refused to respond to their questions. Both were taken into custody for questioning.
The egg-throwing incident triggered strong protests from PTI leaders and workers, including former MPA Seemabia Tahir, who alleged that the women had deliberately attempted to create chaos to undermine the party’s leadership.
The back-to-back confrontations have heightened tensions around PTI’s public interactions, with journalists now demanding greater accountability from the party regarding the conduct of its workers.
