Gaza, October 6, 2025: The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has denied reports claiming it agreed to surrender its weapons as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, calling the stories “baseless” and “fabricated.”
Several media outlets earlier reported that Hamas had agreed to hand over its weapons to a Palestinian-Egyptian committee operating under international supervision as part of the proposed ceasefire framework.
In a statement issued late Sunday, senior Hamas member Mahmoud Mardawi dismissed the reports, saying they were intended to “distort Hamas’ position and mislead public opinion.”
“We categorically deny the fabricated allegations published by several media outlets about the course of the ceasefire negotiations and Hamas’ position on handing over weapons,” Mardawi said.
He urged media organizations to verify their information and rely on credible sources, cautioning against spreading “rumours or unverified claims.”
The clarification comes as Egypt prepares to host delegations from Hamas and Israel on Monday to discuss details of a prisoner exchange deal under Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace initiative.
Unveiled on September 29, Trump’s plan calls for a ceasefire, the release of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners, reconstruction of Gaza, and the disarmament of Hamas. While Hamas has reportedly agreed to the plan in principle, key details — particularly those related to security arrangements and disarmament — remain unresolved.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to mount. According to local authorities, over 67,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed since Israel’s military campaign began. Much of the enclave has been reduced to ruins, leaving nearly the entire population displaced.
