KP CM Afridi reaches Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan after IHC order

Islamabad/Rawalpindi, October 23, 2025: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday directed the superintendent of Adiala Jail to permit Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to meet the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.

The directive came while hearing petitions filed by several PTI leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, seeking permission to meet the former prime minister to discuss policy matters and cabinet formation of the newly elected provincial government.

A three-member IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, and comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Azam Khan, ordered the jail authorities to implement the court’s earlier ruling issued on March 24, which had allowed regular meetings with the PTI founder.

Following the court’s decision, CM Afridi arrived at Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan, but his convoy was stopped by police at Dahgal checkpoint near the prison. Sources said the chief minister was en route to the facility when law enforcement personnel halted his motorcade at the security barrier.

It may be recalled that in March, the same bench had reinstated twice-weekly meetings between PTI leaders and Imran Khan, scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, in line with prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs). The court had also imposed a ban on any media interaction following the meetings, barring visitors from making public statements afterward.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case-I — one of several cases filed against him since his ouster from office in April 2022. He currently faces multiple charges, including corruption and terrorism.
