Rawalpindi, October 27, 2025: Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam is on the verge of overtaking former India captain Rohit Sharma to become the all-time leading run-scorer in men’s T20 Internationals.
The 31-year-old right-hander currently has 4,223 runs in 128 matches at an impressive average of 39.83, trailing Rohit by just nine runs. The former Indian skipper tops the list with 4,231 runs in 159 games.
Most runs in men’s T20Is:
- Rohit Sharma – 4,231 runs (159 matches)
- Babar Azam – 4,223 runs (128 matches)
- Virat Kohli – 4,188 runs (125 matches)
- Jos Buttler – 3,869 runs (144 matches)
The upcoming three-match home series against South Africa, beginning Tuesday in Rawalpindi, gives Babar the opportunity to reclaim his place at the top of the format’s run charts.
Notably, the series marks Babar’s return to Pakistan’s T20I squad after nearly a year. The former captain was left out following the away series against South Africa in December 2024 as selectors prioritized youth development ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
However, after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, Babar was recalled for the home assignment against the Proteas, who were runners-up at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
