Rawalpindi, October 28, 2025: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided not to vote for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate in the election for Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) new Prime Minister, party sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The decision was finalised during a high-level meeting in Rawalpindi, attended by senior leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Maqam. PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir, former AJK premier Raja Farooq Haider Khan, and other parliamentary members also participated.
Sources said the party reaffirmed its support for a change in government in AJK but ruled out joining the new administration. “The PML-N will support political change but will not be part of the new government,” a senior leader was quoted as saying.
The leadership emphasised maintaining strategic independence and influence without taking office. The party also plans to consult the PPP on the possibility of early elections in the region.
The Political Liaison Committee reviewed future strategies with the AJK parliamentary party, stressing coordinated decision-making to strengthen PML-N’s position ahead of upcoming political developments.
The committee will brief Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon his return to the country. Party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining unity and closely monitoring the unfolding political situation in Azad Kashmir.
