Lahore, November 10, 2025: Pakistan’s distinguished literary scholar, educationist, and cultural icon Dr Arfa Sayeda Zehra passed away on Monday, confirmed noted writer and academic Dr Asghar Nadeem Syed.

Dr Zehra, celebrated for her lifelong dedication to literature, education, and cultural discourse, was widely respected for her intellect, eloquence, and commitment to promoting dialogue and critical thought.

A graduate of Government College Lahore, she earned her Master’s degree in Urdu and later completed a PhD in History from the East-West Center, University of Hawaii.

She served as Principal of the Government College for Women, Gulberg, Lahore, from 1986 to 2009, mentoring generations of students and contributing immensely to Pakistan’s academic landscape.

Fluent in seven languages, Dr Zehra was an active member of numerous educational, administrative, social, and cultural committees. Her work consistently emphasized inclusivity, linguistic pride, and the preservation of national identity through education.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over her passing, terming it “an irreparable loss to Pakistan’s academic and literary community.”

“The deceased’s scholarly services and her lifelong efforts for the promotion of the national language will always be remembered,” the President said, praying for eternal peace for the departed soul and offering condolences to her family, students, and admirers across the country.
