Islamabad, November 10, 2025: The family of Senator Irfan Siddiqui clarified on Monday that the PML-N leader had not been placed on a ventilator but was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to breathing difficulties.

In a statement, the family said Senator Siddiqui had been receiving treatment at a local hospital in Islamabad for several days after developing respiratory distress.

Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had stated that the senior PML-N leader had been put on a ventilator as his condition worsened.

“Senior politician and important PML-N leader Irfan Siddiqui is extremely unwell. He has been put on a ventilator due to severe illness,” Chaudhry posted on social media platform X, also offering prayers for the senator’s recovery.

The clarification from Siddiqui’s family came amid growing concern over his health, which coincided with a crucial Senate session convened to deliberate the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill. His absence could complicate the government’s efforts to secure the required two-thirds majority for the bill’s passage.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and is the PML-N’s parliamentary leader in the upper house.

A veteran journalist, columnist, and educationist, Siddiqui has long been associated with the party’s policy and ideological core. In 2019, he was briefly arrested in Islamabad for allegedly violating tenancy laws but was later released on bail.
