Islamabad, October 22, 2024- Pakistan and India have extended the agreement for operating the Kartarpur Corridor for five years. The original agreement to operate the corridor was signed on October 24, 2019.

The spokesperson for Kartarpur has stated that the agreement offers visa-free access to pilgrims coming from India, allowing them to visit the sacred site of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.

The spokesperson highlighted that the Kartarpur Corridor fulfills the long-standing desires of the Sikh community for access to one of their most revered religious sites. This initiative reflects Pakistan’s recognition of the importance of protecting the rights of religious minorities. The spokesperson further noted that the initiative has received widespread praise from the international community, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

It is important to mention that the Kartarpur Corridor refers to the route between the village of Kartarpur in Narowal District of Punjab, Pakistan, and the Nankana Sahib area in Gurdaspur District, India. The distance between Dera Nanak Sahib and Gurdwara Kartarpur is approximately four kilometers.
