Adelaide, December 21, 2025: Australia secured a commanding 82-run victory over England in the third Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, successfully defending a massive target of 435 runs and claiming an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series to retain the Ashes urn. England’s struggles in Australia continue, marking their fourth consecutive series loss Down Under and 16 defeats in their last 18 Tests on Australian soil.
Resuming the final day at 207/6, England’s hopes rested on all-rounder Will Jacks and wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith. The pair extended the seventh-wicket partnership to 91 runs before Mitchell Starc struck to dismiss Smith, who top-scored with a 60 off 83 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Jacks battled on, adding 52 runs for the eighth wicket with Brydon Carse until Starc ended his resilient innings early in the second session. Jacks finished with 47 off 137 balls, while Carse remained unbeaten on 39 off 64 deliveries, featuring four fours and a six.
Australia’s bowlers dominated England’s lower order, with Starc and Scott Boland wrapping up the tail, dismissing Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue. Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, and Starc claimed three wickets each, while Boland chipped in with one. England was eventually bowled out in 102.5 overs, leaving Australia to celebrate a comprehensive win.
The fourth Ashes Test will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from December 26 to 30, where Australia will aim to complete a series whitewash.
