Beijing, December 22, 2025: Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, held a series of individual and collective meetings with Pakistan’s Honorary Investment Counsellors (HICs) in China on Monday, aiming to review their work, strengthen coordination, and set priorities for 2026. The meetings were attended by Ms. Ma Xiaoli, Mr. Zhang Baozhong, Mr. Wang Zihai, and Mr. Jian Peng, representing key Chinese regions with strategic economic linkages to Pakistan.

During the sessions, Ambassador Hashmi commended the HICs’ sustained efforts across regions including Hong Kong-Macao-Greater Bay Area, known for innovation and technology; Xinjiang, Pakistan’s gateway to Central Asia; Shandong, a major industrial hub; and Henan, an emerging agricultural centre. He emphasised their critical role in advancing trade, investment, and people-to-people links, encouraging alignment with Pakistan’s national development priorities and mobilization of Chinese investment in export-oriented sectors.

Highlighting achievements over the past two years, the Ambassador briefed the HICs on 21 identified priority sectors and strategies to channel investments via joint ventures to enhance productive capacities and human capital. He noted that two B2B Investment Conferences in Shenzhen and Beijing and six sectoral investment roadshows had resulted in over 300 MoUs and 25 joint ventures worth $11 billion, with active follow-up mechanisms in Pakistan ensuring high-level facilitation for implementation. Ambassador Hashmi urged HICs to actively pursue execution of MoUs within their jurisdictions to convert commitments into tangible outcomes.

Looking ahead, the Ambassador also briefed the HICs on preparations for the first sectoral China-focused Agriculture Investment Conference, scheduled for January 19, 2026, in Islamabad, and appreciated their efforts to attract participation from leading Chinese agricultural enterprises.

The HICs welcomed the initiative, describing the review as the beginning of an institutionalized engagement framework, and shared their plans for 2026. They reaffirmed their full support for the Embassy’s economic diplomacy agenda, focusing on enhancing Chinese investments in Pakistan, boosting Pakistani exports to China, and fostering bilateral cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors.

The meetings underscored Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to strengthening China-Pakistan economic and investment ties, and highlighted the strategic role of HICs in facilitating sustainable growth and deepening bilateral collaboration.
