High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026

Islamabad, January 1,2026: The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 on Thursday, 01 January 2026, in accordance with government directives on the commencement of duties of public institutions for the New Year.

The official proceedings began with the hoisting of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem, after which a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the members of the Tri-Forces and others who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

Members of the Mission staff formally took the Public Service Oath, reaffirming their dedication to unity, accountability, and resilience in overcoming challenges, and to fulfilling their assigned responsibilities efficiently and productively in support of the vision of “a thriving country and a beautiful life. 

High Commissioner Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne, addressing the staff, conveyed his appreciation for their commitment and contributions toward advancing the government’s objectives in 2025. He emphasized the importance of unity and a coordinated, citizen-centered, and results-oriented public service amid Sri Lanka’s ongoing recovery and rebuilding following Cyclone Ditwah.

He further underscored the duty and responsibility of the staff to demonstrate dedication, commitment, teamwork, and professionalism at the commencement of 2026 in addressing emerging challenges.

The ceremony concluded with the serving of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine to mark the occasion.
