Islamabad, January 2, 2026: Pakistan on Friday reiterated its firm support for China’s sovereignty, reaffirming that it regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China.
The statement came from Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi in response to media queries regarding recent developments in the Taiwan Strait.
“Pakistan and China are iron-clad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners. We reiterate our consistent support to China on all matters of its core interests, including Taiwan,” Andrabi said. “We will continue to adhere to the One-China principle and regard Taiwan as an inalienable part of China.”
The spokesperson noted that Pakistan’s position remains unchanged and consistent. Similar remarks were made during the Foreign Office’s weekly press briefing a day earlier, in response to a question concerning the United States’ sale of arms to Taiwan.
While the Foreign Office statement did not specify the developments prompting the renewed emphasis, it follows China’s recent completion of large-scale military drills around Taiwan. The exercises reportedly included live-fire maneuvers simulating a blockade of key ports and attacks on maritime targets.
China claims Taiwan as its own territory, a position rejected by Taipei.
Meanwhile, the United States has criticized the Chinese military exercises. The US State Department on Thursday said the war games had “unnecessarily” increased tensions in the region. In a statement, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott urged Beijing to “exercise restraint, cease its military pressure against Taiwan, and instead engage in meaningful dialogue.”
Pakistan has consistently supported China’s stance on Taiwan in line with its One-China policy.
