10-point travel advisory issued for Murree as heavy snowfall and ‘black ice’ threat looms

Murree, January 26, 2026: In view of forecasted heavy snowfall and a possible blizzard from Monday evening to Tuesday evening, District Police Officer (DPO) Murree Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra has issued a comprehensive 10-point travel advisory to ensure the safety of tourists and local residents.

The DPO has strongly advised citizens and tourists to avoid night-time travel. He warned that with temperatures expected to fall below freezing, snow on roads can turn into “black ice”—a transparent, glass-like frozen layer that significantly reduces tyre grip and renders vehicle braking ineffective. He added that darkness, dense fog, and snowfall severely hamper rescue operations and the movement of snow-clearing machinery.

According to the advisory, no vehicle will be allowed to enter Murree without snow chains. Travelers have been directed to ensure their fuel tanks are full and to thoroughly check the mechanical condition of their vehicles, particularly brakes, wipers, heaters, and defoggers, before starting their journey.

Drivers have been instructed to maintain very low speeds on snow-covered roads and keep a minimum distance of at least 50 meters from the vehicle ahead to avoid accidents.

The DPO also cautioned motorists to keep vehicle windows slightly open while using heaters to prevent oxygen depletion inside the car. He further stressed that parking on main roads or steep slopes is strictly prohibited, as it obstructs snow-clearing and emergency vehicles.

In case of any emergency or distress situation, citizens and tourists have been urged to immediately contact Police Helpline 15.

The Murree Police have appealed to the public to strictly follow the advisory to avoid mishaps and ensure a safe travel experience during the expected spell of severe winter weather.
