Peshawar, October 28, 2024–The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the provision of financial compensation to families of missing persons who have been unaccounted for over five years.

During the hearing related to 13 missing persons, PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim emphasized the need for these compensations and asked for progress reports from both federal and provincial governments on the matter.

The court also inquired about updates on compensation discussed in the UN Convention. In response, the Deputy Attorney General assured the court that a report on the compensation status would be submitted at the next hearing. As a result, the PHC adjourned the case while awaiting these reports. It’s worth noting that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recently directed the federal government to provide 3 million rupees in compensation to the father of a missing person, Haroon, on June 10. Additionally, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced on August 2 that a grant of 5 million rupees would be awarded to each affected family of missing persons.
