Hafizabad, October 28, 2024-Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally launched the Kisan Card initiative in the province today during an inauguration ceremony in Hafizabad. She acknowledged criticism surrounding wheat procurement issues and noted that early challenges had led to concerns over bread prices. Emphasizing her government’s commitment to the welfare of Punjab’s 140 million residents, she assured attendees of her dedication to addressing these challenges.

Maryam highlighted the Kisan Card’s role in directly supporting farmers by cutting out middlemen. The programme is part of a comprehensive Rs500 billion agricultural package aimed at revitalising the sector and boosting farmer incomes. Key elements include interest-free loans, as well as subsidies on seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. So far, 400,000 Kisan Cards have been distributed, providing direct financial support to farmers.

Additionally, she introduced the Green Tractor Scheme, offering free tractors to small farmers, and outlined plans to solarise tubewells to reduce energy costs and promote sustainable practices.

Maryam Nawaz also attributed recent economic improvements, such as stock market growth and reduced inflation, to Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, contrasting it with the shortcomings of the previous administration.
