Islamabad, October 28, 2024- Pakistan has launched a nationwide anti-polio campaign today, aiming to vaccinate millions of children under the age of five to eradicate the disease. The campaign comes as part of the government’s commitment to achieve a polio-free Pakistan, in collaboration with health authorities and international partners.

Health teams have been mobilized across cities, towns, and remote regions to ensure widespread coverage, especially in high-risk areas. Officials emphasized strict security arrangements for health workers, as they often face threats in certain regions. The campaign will involve door-to-door vaccinations as well as designated centers in schools and healthcare facilities to reach every child.

Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan reiterated the government’s determination to eliminate polio, urging parents and caregivers to cooperate with vaccination teams. He also thanked health workers for their dedication and resilience in overcoming obstacles to reach every child.

The current campaign is crucial in the ongoing fight against polio, as cases continue to surface in a few areas. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic, and both nations are under international scrutiny to eradicate the disease through continued immunization efforts.
