Gillani condoles demise of AJK President Barrister Sultan Mehmood

Islamabad, January 31, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Saturday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the passing of Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In his condolence message, Gillani described Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry as a wise, dignified, and visionary political leader who rendered remarkable and lasting services for the welfare and prosperity of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the late leader had also served as Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where his contributions left a significant and enduring impact.

The Chairman Senate said that Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry effectively, courageously, and convincingly raised the Kashmir issue at international forums, successfully conveying the voice and aspirations of the Kashmiri people to the world.

Gillani added that the political and social services of the late leader would always be remembered. “His struggle, leadership, and sacrifices for Azad Jammu and Kashmir form an important chapter of history, from which future generations will continue to draw guidance,” he said.

Expressing heartfelt condolences and sympathies with the bereaved family, the Chairman Senate said he shared their grief in this difficult hour. He prayed that Almighty Allah grant eternal peace to the departed soul, forgive him, and bless the bereaved family with patience and strength to bear this irreparable loss.
