Rawalpindi, February 3, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s health has reportedly improved following an eye procedure, party chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said on Tuesday, citing messages received from former first lady Bushra Bibi.
Speaking to media outside Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar confirmed that the former premier is continuing treatment after the procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) last week. He noted that family members of Bushra Bibi were allowed a meeting inside the prison after three months, though Imran Khan was not present during the interaction.
Citing Bushra Bibi, Barrister Gohar said doctors had warned that without the recommended procedure, Khan risked losing his eyesight. “He was taken to the hospital after he complained of severe eye pain,” he added.
The PTI chief clarified that the jail meeting with Bushra Bibi did not involve any political discussion, including plans for the February 8 protest. He stressed that jail meetings should not be politicized and criticized what he described as unequal treatment of political leaders in custody.
On security matters, Barrister Gohar urged decisive action against terrorists across the country, including in Tirah, Bajaur, Punjab, and Balochistan, while advocating operations under the National Action Plan with a unified national narrative.
Separately, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja claimed an organized campaign against the party is underway and said a decision has been taken to take strict action against Mashal Yousafzai, though implementation would follow February 8.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has sought Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s intervention to ensure that Imran Khan receives medical examinations by his trusted personal doctors. In a letter to the premier, Achakzai said recent checkups were conducted without the knowledge or presence of Khan’s personal medical team or family members.
Achakzai emphasized the “critical need” for a full medical assessment by trusted physicians, including Dr. Muhammad Aasim Yusuf of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Dr. Prof. Aamir Awan of Shifa Hospital, and Dr. Prof. Mazhar Ishaq, to properly manage the former premier’s health in accordance with medical ethics, legal obligations, and fundamental human rights.
