Islamabad, February 4, 2026: Ambassador Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba on Wednesday received Dr. Aftab Ahmad Chattha, President of the National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS), Pakistan, at the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad to discuss potential areas of bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.

During the meeting, both sides explored avenues for establishing institutional linkages, promoting joint research initiatives, and facilitating technology transfer to advance sustainable development goals within the framework of South-South cooperation.

Ambassador Dr. Oumer H. Oba emphasized Ethiopia’s strategic focus on science and innovation as key drivers of economic growth, particularly in the agriculture sector. He highlighted the critical role of technology in enhancing agricultural productivity, strengthening industrial inputs, and generating employment in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Dr. Chattha briefed the ambassador on the role of NAYS in promoting agricultural innovation in Pakistan and expressed strong interest in exchanging expertise and knowledge with Ethiopian counterparts. He underscored NAYS’ commitment to fostering collaborative research and capacity-building initiatives aimed at addressing shared development challenges.

The meeting reflected a mutual interest in deepening scientific and technological cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan, with a focus on innovation-led growth and sustainable development.
