Islamabad, February 6, 2026: The medical report of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been handed over to his family following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Friday.

In a post on X, Tarar noted that the executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) sent the report to the superintendent of Adiala Jail, who then provided it to Khan’s family. “A letter was written by the Leader of the Opposition to the Prime Minister, and PTI leaders also approached the Supreme Court regarding the medical check-up of Mr. Imran Ahmad Niazi, who is serving his sentences in Central Jail Rawalpindi (Adiala),” he added.

The announcement comes as the PTI renewed its appeal to the Supreme Court, seeking full access to Khan’s medical reports and restoration of visitation rights. Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, said the Adiala Jail superintendent presented “two brief notes” on his health during an appearance before an anti-terrorism court, criticizing this as a “complete disregard for the authority of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.”

The party submitted a memorandum to the apex court, alleging violations of Khan’s legal and human rights, including repeated denial of family and lawyer access. According to the memorandum, Khan has been denied visits since December 2, 2025, and his forced isolation constitutes “torture under all cannons of international law and our own jurisprudence.”

The PTI also voiced concern over Khan’s recent transfer from Adiala Jail to PIMS for an eye procedure, noting that he had reportedly been experiencing eye pain for nearly two weeks before being examined. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed in the Senate on February 3 that Khan was moved to the hospital at his own request.

The memorandum criticized the “impunity” with which orders of superior courts, including the Islamabad High Court, have allegedly been disregarded. It also pointed to delays in hearing petitions filed on behalf of Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, seeking suspension of their sentences, calling the lack of judicial action “oppressive.”

The PTI’s appeal emphasizes immediate access for Khan’s family, doctors, lawyers, and friends, and seeks full transparency regarding his medical treatment while in custody.

Observers say the renewed focus on Khan’s health and prison conditions has intensified political attention, highlighting ongoing disputes over the treatment of the former premier in Adiala Jail.
