United Nations, February 12, 2026: A high-level parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, is set to represent the country at the Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The two-day event, scheduled for February 12–13, will feature multiple sessions focusing on key global issues, including “The UN at 80: Renewing Trust and Purpose through Cooperation and Partnership,” “Translating Global Commitments into National Realities,” “Protecting Democracy from Within: Parliamentary Safeguards, Responsibilities and Renewal in Times of Democratic Erosion,” and “Financing and Future-Proofing the United Nations.”

On the sidelines of the hearing, Chairman Senate Gilani will hold meetings with the President of the UN General Assembly and the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to discuss matters of mutual interest and strengthen parliamentary cooperation.

The Pakistani delegation includes Senator Farooq H. Naek, Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, and Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari.

The Annual IPU Parliamentary Hearing 2026 is a prominent global forum jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations. It brings together parliamentarians from around the world alongside senior UN officials, diplomats, experts, and civil society representatives to deliberate on pressing international challenges and enhance collaboration between national parliaments and the UN system.

Held under the theme “Parliaments and the United Nations: Better Together, Delivering for the People,” this year’s session will focus on promoting peace, sustainable development, democratic governance, and effective multilateralism. Discussions will also contribute to the UN’s Pact for the Future and broader institutional reform efforts.

Rooted in a longstanding UN General Assembly mandate, the Annual Parliamentary Hearing highlights the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy and underscores the critical role elected representatives play in shaping inclusive, people-centered global solutions.
