Islamabad, February 24, 2026: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Tuesday approved the sale of 500,000 metric tons of wheat held by the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), citing rising storage costs and increasing stock levels.
The ECC meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. Under the approved plan, the wheat will be sold through a competitive bidding process on a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) basis.
The committee also approved new reserve prices for wheat sales, fixing the rate for locally procured wheat at PKR 4,150 per maund, while the reserve price for imported wheat was set at PKR 3,800 per maund.
Officials informed the meeting that an earlier attempt to dispose of wheat stocks could not be completed due to the receipt of low bids. The summary on wheat disposal was presented by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
In a separate decision, the ECC approved a technical supplementary grant amounting to PKR 536 million for the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD). The approved funds will be released to the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The committee also deferred a report concerning delays in petroleum levy payments by Cnergyico for further review.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers, special assistants, and senior officials from relevant ministries.
