Islamabad, February 26, 2026: A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Syed Hafeezuddin, MNA, during which a range of policy and oversight matters were reviewed.

The committee adopted the report of its Sub-Committee and decided to revive it for another month to ensure further progress on assigned issues.

A key point of discussion was the matter involving K-Electric, particularly the charging of commercial electricity tariffs to employees residing in the township of Pakistan Steel Mills. Expressing strong displeasure, the committee recommended that K-Electric’s Chief Executive Officer personally appear before the committee at its next meeting to present a comprehensive report, including full details of the total amount collected so far from PSM employees.

The committee also approved six ongoing Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) projects for FY 2026–27, after the Ministry of Industries and Production addressed concerns raised by members in the previous meeting held on February 16, 2026.

Members voiced serious concern over reports that the sugar, cement and tobacco industries are collecting taxes from consumers but may not be transferring the collected amounts to the government. To examine the issue thoroughly, the committee recommended summoning representatives of the sugar, cement and tobacco sectors, along with officials from the Federal Board of Revenue, to the next meeting.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Ms. Kiran Imran Dar, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, Mr. Abdul Hakeem Baloch, Ms. Naz Baloch, Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Khan, as well as the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production and other senior officials from the ministry and its attached departments.
