Islamabad, March 3,2026: President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Sardar Tahir Mehmood has emphasized the urgent need for improving markets infrastructure to facilitate smooth business activities and promote sustainable economic growth in the federal capital.

He expressed these views while talking to visiting trade leaders from various markets of Islamabad who called on him at the Chamber House. On the occasion, Senior Vice President and Vice President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry were also present.

President Sardar Tahir Mehmood said that Islamabad, being the capital city of Pakistan, enjoys a unique significance as its markets and commercial centers are frequently visited by diplomats, foreign delegations and international visitors. He said that it is therefore essential that the city’s commercial infrastructure reflects the standards of a modern capital.

He noted that Islamabad has emerged as a major commercial hub where a large number of traders, entrepreneurs and investors are actively engaged in economic activities. However, he pointed out that several infrastructure-related challenges including shortage of parking facilities, inadequate logistics arrangements and traffic congestion are creating difficulties for traders as well as customers.

He stressed that modern and efficient infrastructure is vital for sustainable economic development and urged the concerned authorities to take practical measures for improving road networks, developing multi-storey parking plazas in busy markets and introducing better traffic management systems to ensure ease of doing business in the capital. He highlighted the importance of developing new commercial and industrial zones in and around Islamabad to accommodate the increasing number of businesses and investors. He said that expansion of organized commercial areas would help strengthen economic activity, attract investment and create new employment opportunities.

Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub said that the Capital Development Authority and other relevant departments should work in close coordination with the business community to address infrastructure-related challenges faced by traders. He said that Islamabad’s commercial centers are expanding rapidly and require well-planned infrastructure facilities to support the growing volume of business activities.

Vice President Irfan Chaudhry reaffirmed that the Chamber will continue to play a proactive role in highlighting the issues faced by the business community and will work closely with government institutions to ensure that Islamabad develops into a modern, well-planned and business-friendly city.
