Ahmedabad, March 8, 2026: The India national cricket team clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 title with a commanding 95-run victory over the New Zealand national cricket team in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Chasing a daunting 256-run target, New Zealand struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs despite a fighting half-century from Tim Seifert.

Seifert top-scored for New Zealand with a brisk 52 off 26 balls, striking five sixes and two fours. Apart from him, only captain Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell reached double figures, scoring 43 and 17, respectively.

India’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered a match-winning spell of 4/15 in four overs. He received strong support from Axar Patel, who claimed three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy, Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma took one wicket each.

Earlier, New Zealand’s decision to field first after winning the toss backfired as India posted a mammoth 255/5 in 20 overs.

Openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave India a flying start, adding 98 runs in just seven overs. Sharma smashed 52 off 21 balls before being dismissed by Rachin Ravindra.

After the breakthrough, Ishan Kishan joined Samson and the pair built a rapid 105-run partnership for the second wicket in just 47 deliveries.

Samson led the charge with 89 off 46 balls, including eight sixes and five fours, while Kishan struck 54 off 25 balls, featuring four sixes and four boundaries.

James Neesham provided some resistance with 3/46, dismissing Samson, Kishan and India captain Suryakumar Yadav in the 16th over.

However, a late cameo from Shivam Dube — 26 not out off eight balls — ensured India crossed the 250 mark.

With a dominant all-round performance, India successfully defended their title, sealing another memorable triumph in the T20 World Cup.
