Islamabad, March 9: President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sardar Tahir Mehmood, said on Monday that the rapidly expanding digital economy is opening new avenues of employment, entrepreneurship and innovation for the youth of Pakistan.

He said that with the right policies and a supportive ecosystem, the country’s youth—comprising nearly 64 percent of the population—can play a transformative role in strengthening the national economy.

Addressing young entrepreneurs at the Chamber House, Sardar Tahir Mehmood noted that Pakistan has immense potential in the fields of information technology, e-commerce, freelancing and digital services. By equipping young people with modern digital skills, he said, the country can significantly boost its exports of IT-enabled services and integrate more effectively with the global digital marketplace.

He emphasized that the government should further facilitate the IT sector by improving internet infrastructure, ensuring affordable digital connectivity and introducing incentives for startups and technology-based businesses.

Encouraging innovation and supporting young entrepreneurs, he added, would not only generate employment opportunities but also contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The ICCI president also highlighted that the business community is keen to collaborate with educational institutions and technology firms to promote skill development programmes, enabling youth to take full advantage of emerging opportunities in the digital economy.

He urged policymakers to prioritize digital transformation and create a business-friendly environment that empowers young professionals and entrepreneurs to actively contribute to Pakistan’s economic progress.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood reaffirmed that the business community would continue to support initiatives aimed at promoting innovation, technology adoption and youth empowerment in the country.
