Rawalpindi, March 9: The Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr in response to the evolving regional maritime security environment and potential disruptions to critical sea lanes.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation aims to counter multidimensional threats to national shipping and maritime trade while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies to the country.

The navy said the initiative is focused on safeguarding the Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), which are vital for Pakistan’s trade and energy imports.

As part of the operation, Pakistan Navy ships are conducting escort missions for merchant vessels in close coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC).

The navy said it remains fully aware of the prevailing maritime situation and is actively monitoring and controlling the movement of merchant ships to ensure their safe and secure transit through regional waters.

With nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade conducted via sea, the operation is aimed at ensuring that critical maritime routes remain safe, secure and uninterrupted.

According to the statement, Pakistan Navy vessels are currently escorting two merchant ships, one of which is scheduled to arrive at Karachi later today.

The Pakistan Navy reaffirmed that it remains fully prepared to respond to emerging maritime security challenges and is committed to protecting national shipping as well as contributing to regional maritime security.
