Islamabad, March 10, 2026: The Pakistan–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), under the convenorship of Muhammad Numan, Member of the National Assembly, held its first briefing session at the Parliament House Islamabad.

The meeting was attended by members of the group, including Shahida Rehmani, Naveed Aamir Jeeva, Romina Khurshid Alam and Samina Khalid Ghurki. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce also participated in the session, while Pakistan’s Ambassador to Serbia, Syed Faraz Hussain Zaidi, joined the meeting virtually.

In his opening remarks, Convener Muhammad Numan underscored the importance of strengthening parliamentary engagement between Pakistan and Serbia. He noted that the establishment and reconstitution of the Parliamentary Friendship Group offers a timely opportunity to enhance bilateral cooperation and deepen engagement between the two countries.

Officials from the Foreign Ministry briefed the members on the historical trajectory and current status of Pakistan–Serbia relations, noting that the two countries maintain friendly ties and that diplomatic engagement continues to evolve.

Representatives from the Commerce Ministry informed participants that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Serbia remains modest but holds significant potential for growth. They also highlighted ongoing efforts to open a Serbian diplomatic mission in Islamabad, which is expected to facilitate bilateral cooperation and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

During the meeting, Ambassador Syed Faraz Hussain Zaidi shared insights into the evolving political and economic landscape in Serbia and pointed to opportunities for expanding cooperation in sectors such as trade, education, tourism and parliamentary exchanges.

Members of the group emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and increasing institutional interaction between the two countries. They also stressed the need to facilitate visa processes and enhance people-to-people contacts to promote academic, cultural and economic exchanges, while ensuring better support mechanisms for Pakistani citizens abroad.

In his concluding remarks, Muhammad Numan expressed hope that the Pakistan–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group would play an active role in promoting stronger parliamentary engagement and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Serbia across multiple sectors.
