Government rejects Taliban claim of strike in Wana, says drone neutralized over South Waziristan

Islamabad, March 15, 2026: Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected claims circulated by the Afghan Taliban’s defence authorities regarding a purported strike in Wana, calling the assertions “propaganda and fabricated.”

According to the ministry, a claim shared by the Afghan Taliban’s so-called Ministry of National Defense alleged that its forces had carried out a successful strike in Wana.

However, officials clarified that the claim was incorrect.

“The fact is that a rudimentary drone was destroyed over South Waziristan through soft-kill measures. No military installation or infrastructure was hit,” the ministry said in a fact-check statement.

The government further said the claim reflects what it described as a recurring pattern of misinformation by the Taliban administration. It cited earlier allegations by Taliban authorities about downing Pakistan Air Force aircraft and capturing pilots, which Pakistan had also dismissed as false.

Officials added that debris from the destroyed drone had been recovered, reinforcing the government’s account of the incident.

The ministry reiterated that such claims should not be relied upon, emphasizing that facts surrounding the incident clearly contradict the narrative being circulated.
